January was an absolute treat for my taste buds as I worked with some of the best food vendors around Perth on their creative social media strategies.
From succulent ribs to gourmet coffee, fresh market finds, and delicious tacos, each spot delivered an unforgettable experience.
If you’re looking for incredible eats, here’s my review of five standout vendors I visited at the start of the year.
1. Aussie Ribs (Fremantle)
A visit to Fremantle isn’t complete without stopping by Aussie Ribs, and my experience there was nothing short of fantastic. Aussie Ribs is a vibrant, family-friendly restaurant located at 25 Collie Street, Fremantle. Specialising in American-style barbecue cuisine, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a menu featuring a variety of ribs, steaks, and burgers. Signature dishes include slow-cooked, fall-apart tender Aussie-style ribs loaded onto a soft bun, topped with their signature BBQ sauce, and paired with fresh lettuce.
A friend and I visited Aussie Ribs in January and we weren’t disappointed. Their slow-cooked ribs were the star and were fall-apart tender, generously coated in a smoky barbecue sauce that had just the right balance of sweetness and spice. During our visit we also tried pork belly bites as well as buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce which were outstanding. Still feeling hungry (haha) we then demolished a woodfired steak along with a delicious pork rib burger which had not yet made it to the menu. Our food was well paired with side dishes including crispy fries and refreshing slaw and the meal was worth every bite.
The atmosphere was cool, casual and inviting, making it the perfect place for a relaxed yet satisfying meal with friends or family in Freo.
2. Cabinet Noir Express (Perth City)
Nestled within a sleek, urban space, Cabinet Noir Express isn’t just a coffee stop – it’s an experience. This place is a distinctive café located on Murray Street in Perth’s central business district and is an extension of the renowned streetwear brand Cabinet Noir.
The minimalist aesthetic, paired with top-tier espresso, made this a highlight of our city outing. We tried a delicious acai bowl, which had muesli and was topped with bananas and berries. We also had a quality coffee along with a croissant which was super fresh and flavourful. If you’re after a high-quality grab-and-go café in the CBD, this is it.
3. Scutti Fresh Markets (Applecross)
Stepping into Scutti Fresh Markets felt like entering a food lover’s paradise. From gourmet cheeses to freshly baked bread and an impressive selection of premium deli meats and produce, every corner of this store had something tempting.
This family-owned gourmet grocery store is located at the corner of Riseley Street and Canning Highway in Applecross.
While I was there I tried an amazing Calabrese lunch pinsa which is a bread pocket imported from Italy filled with deli meats and salad ingredients. We also picked up a freshly made conti roll (they have pre-made or you can make your own combo) the quality and taste was exceptional. Whether you’re shopping for your lunch time feast or just looking for quality, specialty ingredients, Scutti is the place to go.
4. Taco Daddy (Subiaco Night Markets)
Taco Daddy brought the vibrant flavours of Mexico to the Subiaco Night Market in Perth. Their authentic menu options blew us away.
These guys offer a variety of tacos and Mexican-inspired dishes. The Subi Night Market features over 40 food trucks and specialty pop-up vendors. It takes place every Saturday at Market Square Park in Subiaco, running from September through to April.
When we visited, I opted for the classic beef birria taco, which was rich, tender, and dripping with savory goodness. The freshly made tortillas and bold spices took the experience to the next level. Add to that a friendly atmosphere and fast service, and you have a street food gem worth hunting down.
5. Juice Station (Subiaco Night Markets)
Amid all the indulgence of the Christmas period, Juice Station was the perfect place to visit to refresh and recharge. Visitors to the Subiaco Night Markets can enjoy a wide array of over 40 international cuisines. There is also live entertainment, and artisan retail stalls, creating a lively and family-friendly atmosphere.
Juice Station produces freshly squeezed juices from their food van that pops up in markets all around Perth. They squeeze the juices right in front of you, packing them with flavour and nutrition. We tried juices like watermelon, carrot and apple, each one perfectly chilled and delicious. They also do a range of smoothies and we tried a berry and banana combo which was absolutely delicious. With so many options available, Juice Station is a must-visit for those seeking a healthy and delicious pick-me-up at the markets.
Final Thoughts
Each of these food vendors delivered exceptional quality and flavours, making my January food adventures one to remember. Whether you’re craving juicy ribs, top-tier coffee, gourmet groceries, authentic tacos, or refreshing juice, these spots will not disappoint. If you haven’t tried them yet, put them on your list, you won’t regret it.
